That is what my family is feeling right now in regard to my parents' house.
My dad is working in Alaska and my mom in on vacation in Alabama. Tuesday, my grandparents decided to "check on things" at my mom's house. They drove by, didn't notice anything suspicious, and started to drive away. My grandfather decided to get out and look at the water meter. My parents' yard is notorious for water sprinkler leaks. He thought he'd check to see if the meter was running.
It was--very fast.
It turned out that the second floor water heater water line broke. It was literally raining on my parents' first floor. The entire ceiling is ruined. Some of it caved in.
Despite the mess, it's a "simple" fix. The insurance company has already been out and supposedly "cut the check." It's now my mother's responsibility to find repair men to rebuild what was damaged.
My mom is a strong, capable woman who will get through this, but this is not the summer project she wanted.
